HBA Library

Since a disastrous fire in 1967 which destroyed much of the Association's Library, the collection has been re-established and expanded to well over 650 volumes comprising almost all the significant classic and modern beekeeping books. Many beekeeping periodicals are also available for reference and items are continually being added. Section 4 of members handbook, lists the full catalogue of books, magazines, papers. videos and slides.

The Frank Vernon Audio Visual Library

This section of the HBA Library was inaugurated in 1986 to commemorate the renowned Hampshire beekeeper. Frank Vernon, who died in 1985. He was a Past President of HBA and a skilled theoretical and practical beekeeper. scholar and photographer.

His widow Mary has most generously made all Frank's extensive slide collection available on permanent loan to the library. H.B.A has undertaken to safeguard this unique collection and has agreed to ensure that no infringement of copyright for commercial or publication purposes occurs; these rights are retained by Mrs Vernon.

These slides are kept in the Library where Members are welcome to view this collection and make up lecture sets to individual requirements by prior arrangement.

Over the years several videos (in VHS format) have been acquired and these are available for loan to local associations for meetings and to individuals. Early booking is recommended and each application should be accompanied by payment of £2.50 per video to cover postage and packing both ways. The videos will be despatched in good time and in a re-usable padded envelope together with a pre-paid and addressed adhesive label for returning them. Secretaries are urged to post videos back the day after showing to ensure other borrowers are not disappointed. Collection from. (and return to) the Library can be arranged for which there is no charge. For copyright reasons no charge may be made to any audience for viewing.

The librarian would be most pleased to accept any donation of slides or videos to further extend this practical memorial, and it is HBA's intention to purchase more items as funds permit in future.
